Arbitrator Rules in Favour of Grape Growers of Ontario for 2008 Wine Grape Prices

St. Catharines, ON (Sunday, November 3, 2008): Following an arbitration between the Grape Growers of Ontario and the Wine Council of Ontario on October 27-28, 2008, Grape Growers of Ontario Board Chair, Bill George Jr., and CEO, Debbie Zimmerman, are pleased to announce that prices for 2008 wine grapes (Classes 5-10f, late harvest and icewine) have been determined by the arbitrator.

Grape Growers of Ontario Chair, Bill George Jr. comments, “We are pleased that the arbitrator ruled in favour of the wine grape prices presented by the Grape Growers of Ontario. This year growers will receive an increase in some grape varieties consistent with what the Grape Growers of Ontario had requested.”

Debbie Zimmerman, CEO of the Grape Growers of Ontario is “delighted with the decision of the arbitrator especially following a three-year wine grape Memorandum of Understanding that included a 3-year price arrangement which was in effect until the end of harvest 2007.”

The Grape Growers of Ontario is the official organization that represents over 600 registered grower members of nearly 17.1 million vines on 15,000 acres in the province’s four viticulture areas: Niagara Peninsula, Pelee Island, Lake Erie North Shore and Prince Edward County.
