MPP for Niagara Falls, Kim Craitor, Receives Grape Growers of Ontario Award of Merit

St. Catharines, ON: At the 60th Annual General Meeting of the Grape Growers of Ontario held on April 9, 2008, Grape Growers of Ontario Board Chair, Bill George Jr. and CEO, Debbie Zimmerman are pleased to announce that Kim Craitor, MPP for Niagara Falls, was the recipient of the Grape Growers of Ontario Award of Merit.

Grape Growers of Ontario Chair, Bill George Jr. comments, “The Grape Growers of Ontario’s Award of Merit is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions made by individuals to the Ontario grape growing industry.” He further says, “It is fitting that Kim Craitor received this year’s Award of Merit as Kim is an advocate for and champion of the grape growing industry in Ontario at Queen’s Park.”

Debbie Zimmerman, CEO of the Grape Growers of Ontario states, “Kim Craitor exemplifies the qualities characteristic of the Award of Merit and is recognized for his support of and dedication to the grape growing industry in Ontario.” She goes on to say, “We can rely on Kim to listen to the grape growing industry’s concerns and is a strong voice for the industry at Queen’s Park.”

Kim Craitor, MPP for Niagara Falls comments, “I feel very honoured at being awarded the Grape Growers of Ontario Award of Merit which last year went to the industry’s greatest vintner, Donald Triggs of Vincor. In my opinion this award should really belong to the leadership of the grape growers who over the years have helped my understanding of this very important industry. They told me if I would work on the issue of agricultural viability they would work on making the Greenbelt a success. They did, and I was honoured to have the opportunity to be a partner in that pursuit.”

The Grape Growers of Ontario is the official organization that represents over 600 registered grower members of nearly 17.1 million vines on 15,000 acres in the province’s four viticulture areas: Niagara Peninsula, Pelee Island, Lake Erie North Shore and Prince Edward County.
