Cold snap ideal for harvesting of icewine grapes

St. Catharines, ON:  The cold temperatures we are experiencing throughout Ontario are excellent conditions for the harvesting of grapes for icewine by grape growers in Ontario.  Many grape growers are preparing for a night of icewine grape picking.

Debbie Zimmerman, CEO of the Grape Growers of Ontario, states that “this year’s icewine grape harvest is estimated at approximately 6,660 tonnes.  Given the current weather conditions we anticipate a stellar grape harvest for icewine production.”

Bill George Jr., Chair of the Grape Growers of Ontario, comments that “We look forward to the success of this year’s icewine harvest and the excellent VQA icewines that will be produced.  These will continue to promote our recognition as a world renowned producer of icewines.”

The Grape Growers of Ontario is the official organization that represents over 600 registered grower members of nearly 15.7 million vines on 17,800 acres in the province’s four viticulture areas: Niagara Peninsula, Pelee Island, Lake Erie North Shore and Prince Edward County and is the official lobby organization for our members.
