The Grape Growers of Ontario Receive Preliminary Numbers on Applications Applied for the Juice Grape Transition Program
St. Catharines, ON: Today, the Grape Growers of Ontario Board Chair, Bill George Jr., announced that preliminary applications received for the Juice Grape Transition Program indicate that $2.7 million dollars has been applied for of the $3.8 million dollars which was allocated by the Province of Ontario.
Bill George Jr., Chair of the Grape Growers of Ontario indicates that “I thank the government of Ontario for this initial financial assistance. We will continue to vigorously lobby the federal government for their assistance on a joint federal/provincial fall pull out program for the remaining juice grape growers.”
Debbie Zimmerman, CEO of the Grape Growers of Ontario states that “The Juice Grape Transition Program was a first step in providing assistance for those growers who have lost a market for their juice grapes.” She further states that “The Grape Growers of Ontario will continue to negotiate and discuss with our federal and provincial members of parliament the need for a post harvest program for our growers.”
The Grape Growers of Ontario is the official organization that represents over 600 grower members of nearly 15.7 million vines on 17,800 acres in the province’s four growing areas: Niagara Peninsula, Pelee Island, Lake Erie North Shore and Prince Edward County and is the official lobby organization for our members.
