as a New World wine producer, is focused on premium winemaking.
Our unique terroir, skilled viticulturalists and talented
winemakers combine to create some of the best wines anywhere.
The harvest and production of premium vinifera varieties reflect this trend. In 2007, there was a 5% increase in vinifera production
and a decrease of 15% in European hybrid production.
In Ontario, the hybrid variety Vidal leads the way in Icewine
production.
Top red
wine varieties for 2007 were Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon,
Baco Noir, Pinot Noir, Gamay and Marechal Foch.
Leading
white wine varieties were Vidal, Chardonnay, Riesling,
Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer.
In 2005/06,
wine sales were up 8.9% from the previous year, compared to 4.8% for beer sales and 5.5% for spirits sales. In terms of sale value, beer captured 48.6% of sales, wine 26.6% and spirits 24.8%.
