Family: Lou is married to Adriana and has 3 children.
History: The art of grape growing began in the Puglisi family in 1974 when Lou’s late father, Joe Puglisi, planted his first grapes in the Niagara region. The present vineyard acreage is 60 acres.
Lou grew up with a farming family which stems back 3 generations to his Italian roots in Sicily, Italy, a heritage rich in viticulture.
Grape Varieties Planted: Lou Puglisi currently grows for Vincor and Magnotta. He grows the following 7 varieties: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Vidal.
Comments on the Wine and Grape Industry: Great wines begin in the vineyard. The grape grower's goal is to nurture the vineyard in order to produce the highest quality grape. In order to achieve this goal, the grower strives for excellence by crop thinning, regular soil and leaf analysis and canopy management. A challenge facing our industry today is increasing market access and market share. Our industry has evolved into a world-class, wine-producing region and there will always be a market for great wine. |
