Potential Frost Advisory

Friday, May 22, 2015 | CCOVI

This is an alert concerning grapevine cold hardiness and cold temperatures.  Weather forecasts indicate that temperatures will be dropping to near freezing tonight and Saturday morning with the potential for frost in some regions across Ontario.  If temperatures drop below freezing, injury may occur especially to green tissue such as young shoots and leaves.

It is important to monitor vineyard temperatures.  For optimal use of wind machines, it is suggested that the start-up temperatures be set at 1 to 2 C for frost protection.   It is also important to monitor wind speeds along with temperatures.
