Grape Growers of Ontario is an independent, self-governing farming organization. We are not a government body, agency or department.
The Grape Growers of Ontario (GGO) is the official organization acting under the authority of the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Act, and are funded entirely by grape growers who pay a fee per metric tonne of grapes sold. These funds are used to support the grape-growing system and to promote the grape and wine industry in the province.
The GGO represents all of Ontario's 500 growers of 17,000 acres of processing grapes. Our membership includes 178 wineries in the Province's three designated viticulture areas or appellations of origin: Niagara Peninsula, Lake Erie North Shore and Prince Edward County, and Ontario's emerging regions.
At our annual meeting, growers elect a committee. The Growers' Committee then elects ten directors, and those directors choose the officers for the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors approves the programs, policies and strategic direction of the Grape Growers of Ontario. The Board meets every month at its offices in Niagara, and informs our grower-members throughout the year through meetings, newsletters and other communications. Every member of our Board of Directors is a grape grower, whose knowledge and experience in the grape-growing industry benefits the organization as a whole.
