March 27, 2017 - Niagara, ON: The Grape Growers of Ontario congratulate Growers’ Committee member Gerald Klose of Niagara-on-the-Lake on receiving the 2017 Cuvée Award of Excellence for Best White Vinifera. Jamie Quai, 2017 Grape King, and Leta LaRush of BASF Canada presented Gerald with the award for his Chardonnay vineyard at the Grand Tasting event hosted by Brock University’s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) on March 24th in Niagara Falls.
“The Cuvée Award of Excellence in Viticulture recognizes a grower who promotes excellence in their vineyard practices,” says Grape Growers of Ontario Chair Matthias Oppenlaender. “I commend Gerald on his exceptional vineyard practices which consistently produce high quality grapes.”
Debbie Zimmerman, CEO of the Grape Growers of Ontario, says, “Cuvée showcases the best of Ontario VQA wines, and the Cuvée Award of Excellence in Viticulture recognizes the importance of the grower and the quality of grapes used in producing those wines. We believe that it is essential to showcase the grower as great wines start in the vineyard.”
